Mr. Lai is well-versed in advising enterprises for growth in arranging structured financing, private equity

 

investment and initial public offering of their operations in the Greater China region.  In particular,

he is a China expert with over 30 years' hands-on experience in advising clients to achieve their goals

by participating in either investment or divestment transaction. 

 

After graduating from Chinese University of Hong Kong and University of Toronto majoring in finance, Eddy started his exciting banking career in 1988. During that time, Eddy served and advised clients on all kinds of structured debt & project financing, M&As and IPOs.  Eddy left the Hong Kong branch of the Chemical Bank (now named as the J.P. Morgan Chase Hong Kong) back in 1994 to start his "sell-side" career; he then joined the local enterprises engaging in industrial, infrastructure, agriculture and telecommunication businesses in China and led the IPO exercises for listing of these groups on the Stock Exchange of Hong Kong.

 

In 2002, Eddy joined one of the well-known Hong Kong Family and listed conglomerates group (New World Development) and he was responsible for their wholly-owned direct equity investment arm. This "buy-side" role happened during the height of many Chinese domestic enterprises seeking for "red-chip" and/or "VIE" listing in Hong Kong and other overseas bourses after the 2000 millennium; and he led the team to complete more than 50 successful investments through 2015. These portfolio companies were engaged in various businesses such as renewable, media, advanced materials, consumables, food & beverage, education & etc; subsequent exits of these investments were favorably through either IPOs, trade sales & guaranteed buybacks.

 

Since 2015, Eddy has been focusing on building a portfolio of business operations in primary medical care, rehab, wellness and elderly care services in both Hong Kong and in China.  This new business segment has been successfully launched recently and Eddy is very excited to be part of M Square’s team in sharing his diverse experience and expertise.
